The SEA π
So I was looking at the latest deals in Southeast Asia when I came across Secai Marche (awesome name btw), a farm-to-table fulfilment platform serving farmers in Japan and Malaysia who just raised USD $1.6 million in a Series A funding.
So I think to myself "Ok which restaurants are using their service?π€"
To my surprise, some of the best restaurants in Malaysia are using them, including one Michelin Star restaurant, Dewakan.
π€·ββοΈ Who is Secai Marche?
Founded by Ami Sugiyama, Secai Marche is an online marketplace that connects farmers with restaurants in Japan and Malaysia
There are a few challenges in the food service distribution industry in Southeast Asia that Secai Marche is trying to solve
It's highly fragmented and inefficient, making it difficult for restaurants to source high-quality products from all around the world
π§βπΎ How it works
Sercha Marche solved these problems by being a one-stop solution for restaurants
The company helps smooth bumps along the F&B supply chain with its in-house software, like a warehouse management system and demand forecast for perishable items
Over 4,000 items are available on the platform from farmers in Southeast Asia and Japan, including vegetables, fruit, eggs and seafood
π° Funding
So far, Secai Mache has raised a total of USD $4.5 million
The proceeds were used to build out its warehouse management and fulfilment system for perishables and establish a cold supply chain from farm to end-users that covers over 300 farmers
The latest funding will be used to develop Secai Marcheβs demand forecast system and optimize truck routing as it expands its service areas
π Players
Ok I guess it's time for me to head over to Dewakan to learn more about this startup nam sayin' π

1. Tokopedia f*cked up. The e-commerce arm of Indonesia-listed Goto has apologized for a voucher mishap which has led to several transactions being declared void. The company had launched a discount voucher worth 100,000 rupiahs (USD $6.70) on a transaction of at least 150,000 rupiahs for customers of UOB's digital bank TMRW but the glitch ended up letting anyone use it. Tokopedia has offered 5,000 rupiah compensation to affected sellers.
2. Headquartered in Singapore and listed on the NYSE, TCDX, the business process outsourcing company is expecting to see its revenue for 2022 grow by 18% to 21% year on year. Although layoffs have been sweeping through the tech industry, TCDX continues to see demand from its high-growth clients which include Meta and Airbnb.

Itβs remarkable how people like @joerogan and @lexfridman are building absolute media empires by simply listening to people for once instead of cutting them off and consistently trying to shape a cohesive narrative
