Indonesia just seems to have their sh*t together and today we'll be talking about one of its homegrown startups - GudangAda.

🤷‍♂️ Who is GudangAda?

• Launched in 2019 by a former CEO in the FMCG sector, Stevensang

• GudangAda is a B2B FMCG e-commerce platform

🤕 What pain points are they solving?

• Around 80% of FMCG transactions depend on traditional retailers but the majority of them have not adopted technology optimally

• Wholesalers usually need to hire a sales team to go door to door to sell their products which translates into higher cost

• "Supply chain costs for wholesalers and retailers are increasing every year, but their productivity remains stagnant. Therefore, I established GudangAda with a mission to streamline the supply chain within one platform" - Stevensang

💵 How do they make money?

• You know how over the internet, you keep seeing tech bros posting "AirBnB owns no real estate, Uber owns no vehicle..." on Twitter

• Yea that's exactly GudangAda business model - marketplace

• Unlike distributors, they don't carry inventory, they don't sell anything (except dreams to VC), what they do is they charge a 2%-5% fee for wholesalers to list their products

🪙 Funding

• GudangAda recently got over USD $100 million from its oversubscribed series B round led by Asia Partners and Falcon Edge (In this environment? not bad, not bad at all)

• With that, they have raised a total of USD $135 million in just two and a half years of its existence

• They plan to use that money to offer other services like logistics, point-of-sale software as a service, marketing, data, and financial solutions
