The SEA 🌊
If you give me $100k to invest in startups in Southeast Asia, I would probably put my money in Indonesia. (Sorry Malaysia)
Indonesia just seems to have their sh*t together and today we'll be talking about one of its homegrown startups - GudangAda.
🤷♂️ Who is GudangAda?
Launched in 2019 by a former CEO in the FMCG sector, Stevensang
GudangAda is a B2B FMCG e-commerce platform
🤕 What pain points are they solving?
Around 80% of FMCG transactions depend on traditional retailers but the majority of them have not adopted technology optimally
Wholesalers usually need to hire a sales team to go door to door to sell their products which translates into higher cost
"Supply chain costs for wholesalers and retailers are increasing every year, but their productivity remains stagnant. Therefore, I established GudangAda with a mission to streamline the supply chain within one platform" - Stevensang
💵 How do they make money?
You know how over the internet, you keep seeing tech bros posting "AirBnB owns no real estate, Uber owns no vehicle..." on Twitter
Yea that's exactly GudangAda business model - marketplace
Unlike distributors, they don't carry inventory, they don't sell anything (except dreams to VC), what they do is they charge a 2%-5% fee for wholesalers to list their products
🪙 Funding
GudangAda recently got over USD $100 million from its oversubscribed series B round led by Asia Partners and Falcon Edge (In this environment? not bad, not bad at all)
With that, they have raised a total of USD $135 million in just two and a half years of its existence
They plan to use that money to offer other services like logistics, point-of-sale software as a service, marketing, data, and financial solutions

Damn, gig economy ftw. Someone should make a TikTok channel of a day in a life as a grab rider
2. Interesting Reddit thread: Are you able to speak other Chinese dialects/languages other than Standard Mandarin? I personally speak fluent Hokkien but would want to speak Cantonese 🥺
3. News: BN has filed election petitions for three parliamentary seats, including the Marang constituency held by PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, over allegations of vote buying. Ermm says you??
4. News: TikTok nothing to do with it: PN used race, religion, Rafizi says Ok we already know that, time to get to work

Saw this FB post where someones hen attacked their youngest baby nearly blinding her, so they killed the chicken and made nuggets. This is so feral and real lmao.
